When picture and sound are not the same length, the mismatch is named and the choice is yours: trim, extend with black, or fill with silence.

Opening an NLE to re-marry picture and sound means a full export, twenty minutes of transcode and a second-generation master. Drop the two files here instead and the picture comes out the far side bit for bit identical.
A mix that runs two seconds long, or falls short of picture — most tools either refuse the job or silently truncate. Video Audio Replacer names the gap and hands you the choice: trim the audio, or extend the picture with black. The other way round, pad with silence, or trim the picture. Only one of those re-encodes, the one that adds black, and it tells you so before you commit.
