On set or in the studio
The same person does it all, which means a line re-recorded in the studio sits inside what was captured on location.
Location sound
Boom alone or with an assistant, lavs on the people who speak, multitrack recording. On set we hold the levels, we hear the problems before the editor does, and we fix them while a retake still costs thirty seconds.

The voice you hear without seeing the actor — advertising, documentary, training. We send you several voices to listen to before you choose, and the session happens in a room whose acoustics were designed for it.

From the call to the files
Your dates
You give the days, the location and the kind of shoot. We confirm availability.
The quote
A price for the day, the kit and an assistant if one is needed. In writing, before the shoot.
Preparation
We read the script or the schedule, talk to the DP, and work out what the location is going to throw at us.
The shoot and delivery
We shoot, we back up twice, we deliver the tracks and the report.

Questions
What people ask before booking
Do you work alone or with a boom operator?
Both. On a light setup the recordist booms and runs the recorder. On a heavier set an assistant comes in on the boom. We settle it at the quote: it is not the same price and not the same result, and the choice depends on how many people speak and how fast the day moves.
Are you only working on union sets?
Not a problem. Matthieu Nantel is a member of AQTIS 514 IATSE. Productions that must hire accredited technicians can do so with no extra step, but we also work on independent sets. We are flexible and we adapt to all styles of production.
Do you supply the kit, or do we rent it?
It is supplied. We rent out our own audio equipment to production companies. Sound Devices 833 and MixPre-10 II recorders, Sennheiser MKH 416, MKH 50 and MKH 8050, DPA 6060, Sanken CS-3e and COS-11, wireless links, headphone feeds for the director. The studio page has the full list.
Do you travel outside Montreal?
Yes, anywhere in Quebec and also where the production team will take us!
Can you also edit and mix?
Yes, and that is often the point. The studio does audio post-production. When it is possible, it's so helpful to be able to work with the same sound team from beginning to end.
